About me

I am a qualified teacher with experience in the private and public sector.

I have a BA Joint Hons in English and French and a PGCE.

I have over 30 years’ experience as a self-employed tutor and working for Tutoring Agencies.

As well as my work as a tutor I am involved in local politics – this means that very occasionally lesson times may have to be juggled to accommodate unexpected meetings.  However I always try to be flexible and adapt to students’ needs and timetables.

I am a keen theatre-goer, enjoy horse-riding and bridge, and am a devoted fan of Tottenham Hotspur! I do however accept Arsenal fans as pupils as long as they promise not to wear the shirt in my presence.

Over the years I have worked with a large variety of students, sometimes returning to families to teach younger siblings, and it is very rewarding to help them achieve their potential. Individual attention often gives students that crucial self belief and confidence needed to succeed. I love the subjects that I teach and I try to pass on that enthusiasm to my students – even winning over determined poetry haters, for example!
