FEES

Please note that from September 2015 my fees will be rising. I have held them at the same level for  over 8 years but rising costs mean I can no longer do so.

Full details of the new fees can be found on the Fees page.

Cost of proofreading?

On one of the people per hour websites I was recently amazed to see someone offering the first 5 pages of proof reading for $20 with the implication that this was a really good offer. It seems very expensive to me.

Maybe I’m under charging at £20 per hour?

Obviously speed depends on the subject matter to a certain extent; I have proof read some fairly complex subjects from theology and philosophy to medical theses and they will take longer than say a creative story. Another factor that will impact on speed is the amount needing correction. If one is proof reading work from someone who does not have English as a first language there will be a certain amount of grammatical correction to be done as well as checking for normal typos.

I seem to notice more typos in novels these days – maybe proof reading is a dying art!

Tuition fees

Although my fees have been at this level for 5 years + after much thought (and canvassing of opinion among friends and colleagues) I’ve decided to keep them at the same level for the next academic year.

So many prices are going up and I realise that for most people private tuition is a luxury, an add-on item. By keeping a large difference (£10 extra) between lessons taught at my home and those at a pupil’s home it means that I can teach for more hours in a day, rather than use the time travelling, and thus  not have to raise my prices.
